Taste of Hong Kong. A lingering flavor

In the early years of the Republic, Guangzhou was still a bustling metropolis with a mix of Chinese and foreign cultures. Renowned chef Mr. Ye Qi Lu, with a strong commitment to the quality of food and a dedication to flavor, devoted his life to promoting Chinese cuisine. In 1959, his son Ye Guan established the Koon Wah brand in Hong Kong, symbolizing Culinary Excellence in China", dedicated to promoting the local snack culture of Hong Kong, and setting up a factory for dried fruits and food products. The third generation, known affectionately as Brother Nuan, opened the first innovative snack specialty store in Sham Shui Po, featuring a neon sign 40 feet high, which became a landmark of the time, still fondly remembered today; he also established “Nuan Ge Kitchen”, aiming to promote traditional snack flavors, developing more innovative and timely food products, and creating recipes for “Dried Fruits in Dishes,” integrating traditional snacks into cultural life. Today, the current leader, Brother Guang, has inherited the family business, keen on innovation and change, promoting Hong Kong snacks and flavors to domestic and overseas markets, achieving Koon Wah as a symbol of Hong Kong's snack culture!
